| In 1981, two grungy teenage boys met through an ad in a local paper and decided to form a band. To their surprise, that band would go on to sell nearly 90 million albums worldwide and change the way metal music is played forever, with a career that would span well over two decades. Twenty some-odd years later, Metallica is arguably the biggest, loudest, and most influential music group ever formed. Over time, the band has gone through many changes, both musically and lyrically, as well as in the composition of the members themselves. Today, James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett, and Rob Trujillo rule the metal scene with an iron fist, playing to sold-out audiences all over the world. Not too shabby when you take into account Metallica's less-than-celebrated origins. In June of 2003, Metallica reaffirmed their status as the greatest heavy metal band to grace the face of music once again with the release of their 8th studio album, St. Anger, an intense, hard-hitting composition that is not for beginners! With so much accomplishment to their name, the question remains, "What's next for Metallica?" With a new bassist, Robert Trujillo, and frontman James Hetfield's new outlook on life after spending several months in a rehab treatment facility to deal with his personal problems, the possibilities are endless. These recent events have undoubtedly given the boys a newfound energy, and have helped to usher in a new chapter in Metallica's history. |
